Golf Putting Grips - 7 Most Common!

When it comes to choosing a golf putting grip, you will find that there are proably more variations and styles to select from than any other area in golf. It can be a minefield for someone who is just Starting Golf! So to give you a hand, i have listed the most commonly used golf putting grips below, hopefully out of this selection you will find one which feels comfortable and suits your style!

How To Cure Golf Putting Yips!

Have you ever heard of anyone suffering from Golf Putting Yips, who has Just Started Golf........it's very rare, even unheard of!! This is because they have not had many traumatic experiences with their golf putting......YET!! They are fresh to the golf game and they do not put as much pressure on their golfing performance as the more experienced golfers do.

Some Suggestions To Help Cure Golf Putting Yips!

If you are suffering from Golf Putting Yips, then you have my deepest sympathy and hopefully you will find some of these simple but effective suggestions below useful!

Try replacing those bad experiences and memories of the traumatic missed putts of the past, with a selection of newer more positive memories......think of the great putts that you have holed!

Try putting things in perspective, if you do miss that putt, you are not going to lose you life, health or family! it is not going to be the end of the world and you are not going to change the course of history because of it.....so relax and enjoy the game for what it is.....you have nothing to fear!

Maybe experiment with a change of putting style, this often helps cure golf putting yips, purely because it gives you a boost of confidence by trying something different. A new Golf Putting Grip could make all the difference, or improving your Putting Setup!

A new putter can also do wonders for your putting confidence, maybe a heavier putter with a thicker grip could help, or maybe a longer putter that requires the use of a Split Handed Putting Grip.

Creat a routine that you stick to, this will help you to focus on something other than the dreaded golf putting yips. It could go something like this,  a) read the line....b) have a few practice swings to get a feel for the distance....c) set yourself over the ball....d) square the putter head....e) make the putt!!

If none of the above help, then perhaps get hold of some councelling or coaching that is geared towards restoring your confidence and self-esteem or maybe a good quality Golf Instruction Book or Putting Ebook might be the answer.

What Causes Golf Putting Yips!

One of the biggest fears in golf, is that of the dreaded Golf Putting Yips! yet there are no definitive answers as to what causes golf putting yips, only theories! In my opinion, it is a psychological issue!

If we remove the technical issues of Golf Putting aside for a second, and assume that you have a competent putting setup and good putting techniques, then the main difference between being a good golf putter and a poor one is Confidence! Most golfers at some point or another will have experienced the sensation of standing over a putt and knowing the you are going to hole it, even before you have made the stroke.

A few might say this is down to psycho kinesis (the ability of the mind to move an object without physical means) but of course what is really happening is that you are in a positive state of mind! your body is stress free and feels at ease, which allows you to make your best possible putting stroke. This in turn, will give the golf ball the est possible chance of finding the bottom of the hole, and often does!

Golf Putting Yips - What are the Causes?

In simple terms, Golf Putting Yips is a fear of missing or failing to make a putt, your state of mind is negative and your brain is telling you that there is no possible chance of holing that 4 foot putt! This fear creates a spasmatic reflex reaction in the hands and will tend to affect the shorter putts, as these are the putts that one would normally be expected to make, and the ones that case the most embarrassment when missed!

Every experience that you have in life is stored somewhere in your brain! Most of these memories will have been forgotten, as they made no particular impression. However, a traumatic missed putt or a series of missed putts that may have cost you in competition or caused you embarrassment are stored away in your active recall memory, which comes back to haunt you, when you are in a similar situation. Golf putting yips loves this and thrives on these situations!!

Improve Your Putting - Where To Start?

I understand that Golf Putting can be extremely frustrating at times, and there have been many occasions that i have walked off of a putting green having just missed an easy 3 or 4 foot putt. It's agony, and i wonder why i ever took up this silly game!

The other side of the coin......there is truely no better feeling than when you make that 10 foot putt on the last putting green to clinch Victory!

Golf Putting - The Unfortunate Reality!

If you ask any of your golfing buddies, how much time they spend practicing their Golf Putting, i bet the majority of them will probably say "not a lot!" they will probably spend a few minutes on the putting green before they go out to play! This is the unfortunate reality in golf and is the reason that most golfers will never reach their true potential in this game.
