How To Choose A Putter

At some point or another in your golfing career, you are going to experience the testing question of.....How to choose a Putter? With so many putters to choose from, how are you going to find that special one, that will take your Golf Putting game to the next level? Even some of the finest golfers of all time....Arnold Palmer encountered some issues when trying to choose a putter. In his career, he managed to collect a staggering 3,000 golf putters or more!!

To make life a little easier, when you are next thinking about how to choose a putter.....try answering a couple of simple questions during the process.
1st - Do you love the look of the golf putter?

2nd - Does it feel comfortable and right when you have a few practice swings with it?

After all......once you have learned a good solid realiable Putting Setup, have mastered the art of Reading Putting Greens and a few other specialized putting techniques, then becoming a GREAT Golf Putter is going to boil down to 2 factors......Feel and Confidence!!

Consider Putter Length When Choosing A Putter!

When you have found a golf putter that you love the look of and feels right, it's important to consider the putter length when choosing a putter. Putters generally average between 33" to 36" in length, which will cover the majority of golfers needs, so find one that fits your natural putting setup. If you find that you require a shorter or longer putter, then it's probably best to speak to your local club golf pro to order one for you.

The best way to check that the putter is the correct length for you is to assume your natural putting setup and check that the sole of the putter head is flat on the ground. If the toe end of the putter head is slightly raised, then the putter is too long for you. On the other hand, if the heal end is slightly raised then the putter is too short for you.

You will be amazed at the negative impact it has, having a putter that is not the right length. Your ball striking will be inconsistent at best, and you will not be able to accurately judge the direction of your putts!! So make sure when you are choosing a putter that the putter fits you and don't attempt to adjust your stance and posture to fit the putter!!

How to Choose a Putter? - Also Consider Green Speed!

The speed of the putting greens can also be a factor when you choose a putter, especially if you play most of your golf on the same course. If your golf course's putting greens tend to be slow, then choosing a putter with more weight will definitely make more sense, as you will require a little less effort to generate the clubhead speed for those longer putts.

The speed of your putting greens will also influence the loft on the putter that you choose as well. If the putting greens are slow and a bit heavy, then you will certainly beneift if you choose a putter that has more loft, as this will lift the ball a little more after impact and give you a more consistent roll.

My Final Thoughts on How to Choose a Putter!

My final thoughts on how to choose a putter......i would suggest that you don't worry too much about the lastest and greatest putters out there on the market. Get yourself down to your local shop or clubhouse and try out a few different shapes and sizes. You will soon get a feel for the putters you like the look of and once you have had a few practice swings, you'll know which one feels right.

At the end of the day, just try to remember that everyone will have a different opinion on what is the best putter, so don't be influenced purely on what the crowd says......take some time to test a few different models and as soon as you find one that looks lovely (in your eyes) and feels great.....grab it with both hands.

Then continue to practice and learn as much as you can about all the subtleties and intricacies of Golf Putting. Just remember that 'FEEL and CONFIDENCE' is everything, when it comes to golf putting!
